New College Build: September 2010 Update
As you will be aware, the coalition government’s announcement that it was ending the Building Schools for the Future programme has resulted in the termination of our scheme to rebuild the college, along with more than 700 other secondary schools across the country.
Soon after ending the BSF programme, the government set up an independent review of funding for capital spending on schools. The review body is due to make an interim report in October and we await its recommendations eagerly.
However, we are not just waiting: we are working with the local authority to put a proposal together which will secure the rebuilding of the college as previously planned. It is hoped that we will be able to get a meeting with government representatives this month to put our case. As soon as there is something definite to report, we will post it here.
We would like to thank all those parents and members of the community who have supported us so far in a variety of ways. We appreciate this support very much indeed.
Finally, our local MP, Shailesh Vara, has indicated his sympathy for our plight and it is certainly worth writing to him to express your views on the matter. He is keen to know how strongly the local community feels about this issue.
Best wishes,
Malcolm Ellison
