 What is spinning

Spinning, or cycling to music, was considered an unusual concept when it first hit gyms, but now everyone’s doin’it. The idea behind an indoor cycling class came from, you guessed it, the USA where professional cyclist Johnny G was searching for a way to train for the annual Los Angeles to New York bike race.
He built himself a super-sturdy, indoor bike, set it up in his garage and invited friends along to join him and relieve the tedium of hours spent pedalling alone. Reebok was so sold on the idea of the special bikes that it bought the rights to market them and Spinning was born.
Spinning Picture
Although the Spinning bikes look like any other exercise cycle, in fact they have much smoother momentum and a wide range of resistance settings so that everyone can complete a 45 minute class at their own level.
A class involves simulating a cycle ride across demanding terrain. Instructors can take you up hills and down dales, ask you to sit, stand and pedal ferociously…….
You will sweat, ache and moan considerably, but after 3 to 4 weeks the results of regular Spinning will be noticeable!
If you need convincing that it will get you fit too, try this: Johnny G later won the cycling race from LA to NY, covering the 3100 miles in 12 days, more than 4 hours ahead of the next competitor.
Verdict: If you want to lose weight and firm up quickly, then give it a spin. As a calorie burner it is top notch!!! Stanground Sports Centre Management Team
