Dressed to impress and arriving in a glittering
array of vehicles, Year 11 delighted other students
and staff as they arrived after months of planning
and preparation. Entertainment in the morning was
provided by many of the highly talented students
in Year 11, followed by a performance from RESPOND.
The local band has a special connection with Stanground
College – two are former students and one
left exactly five years ago, when the leaving students
arrived in Year 7. The band have already performed
at The Cavern Club in Liverpool and many other
venues across the country.
In the afternoon, guest speaker Sally Kettle spoke
of courage and determination. She is the first
woman to have rowed across the Atlantic East – West
twice, facing 40ft waves, gale force winds and
shark attacks. Her inspirational message came at
the end of an outstanding year for the students
who could well bring in the best results in the
forty year history of the college. Head of Year
11, Lee Fullerton said, “These 270 students
have been an inspiration to me: their hard work,
commitment and determination to succeed have been
second to none. We wanted to make their last day
at school a memorable one, as a token of our appreciation
for all the effort they have put in.”
