Science

Science Aims - Citizenship and Social Responsibility

We are here to develop the whole person through the medium of science education To relate the study of science to students everyday experiences by developing their ability to solve problems though
scientific methodology.

To enable students to take their place in society as informed and responsible citizens so that science reflects the culturally diverse society to which we belong.
To promote the scientific ethos as a vital part of a balanced persons skills and attitude for life in the 21st century. To create opportunities for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the social, health, economical and environmental implications.

The aims of the science department are:

To make science relevant and accessible to students of all abilities and provide opportunities for each student to achieve their full potential, at their own pace and in a supportive atmosphere.

  • To prepare students for KS3 SATS, and KS4 GCSE and 'A' Level sciences.
  • To ensure students are actively involved in the learning and assessment processes.
  • To relate the study of science to students' everyday experiences.
  • To enable students to take their place in society as informed and responsible citizens.

The Science department

The department consists of 14 science labs most of which are contained in a specialist science building, many of the labs are new or recently refurbished. The department also has its own computer suite with Internet access, we currently have 15 Pentium PC's within the science area.
